About us: The Geospatial Applications department provides Earth Observation (EO) expertise for environmental monitoring, defence and civil space-based applications. The team uses optical, radar, hyperspectral and other EO imaging techniques to solve customer requirements across markets from agriculture to maritime. The team brings together diverse backgrounds including Geography, Physics, Geology, Computing Science and AI, with expertise in satellite image processing, AI-enabled data analysis and Earth change detection over time. Airbus designs Earth Observation satellites to support climate action and sustainability.
What you will be doing
* Be an active and valued member of the Geospatial Applications team.
* Contribute to and develop skills in:
o Design and development of satellite-derived products, applications and analytics in thematic areas (e.g., maritime, agriculture, humanitarian response/disaster recovery, climate monitoring and mitigation, defence) using optical, radar and hyperspectral imagery from commercial and public providers.
o Earth Observation algorithm development.
o Big data and machine learning/AI techniques.
o Data fusion and quality control.
o Automation of processing chains.
o Ongoing operational projects to achieve timely deliverables and objectives.
* Travel to a variety of Airbus sites.
* Customer engagement and contribution to the company’s wider business development goals (e.g., networking with the North East England space cluster).
Outward Bound: During the 1st year you will attend a week of Team Building Activities at an Outward Bound UK site, working in teams across Airbus sites on activities such as rock climbing, hiking, abseiling and canoeing.
Requirements
* 3 A-levels (or equivalent) at B or above, including at least one of Maths, Physics, Geography or Computer Science
* GCSEs in Maths and English Language at grade C/4 or above
