Offer description

Emergency Care Assistants (ECA) and EMT1s (Casual)

Increased Workload (North West & Scotland)

Lifeline Medical Services Ltd is expanding our operations across the North West and Scotland and we’re looking for committed ECAs and EMT1s to join our team.

This isn’t the usual frontline ambulance role. The majority of our current requirement is repatriation work, supporting patients to get home or transfer to hospital from air ambulances and commercial flights into airports across the North of England and Scotland. It’s rewarding, varied, and offers a refreshing change of pace from 999 frontline work, while still drawing on your clinical skills and professionalism. We also have opportunities across our Event Medical Services.

Why join us?

* Enhanced Pay for Repatriations – All repatriation shifts are paid at time and a half of your base rate.
* Competitive Pay - Pay rates from £13.78 per hour, depending on contract.
* Flexible but Committed - We ask for a minimum of 4 shifts per month to ensure consistency and cover as demand grows.
* Something Different - Step away from constant frontline pressures and experience a new side of patient care.
* Short Notice Opportunities - Much of this work comes in at short notice, often requiring you to be available within 24 hours’ notice – ideal if you want extra shifts that fit around other commitments.
* Supportive Team Environment - You’ll work with professional, experienced crew members who take pride in delivering safe, high-quality care.
* Professional Development - Opportunities for CPD, internal training, and the chance to add something different to your CV.

Role Overview:

* Undertake patient transfers and repatriations, ensuring safe, compassionate, and professional care throughout the journey.
* Deliver care within your scope of practice, maintaining high standards of clinical documentation and communication.
* Work flexibly as part of a dynamic team, often responding to last-minute scheduling needs.
* Completion of all required documentation for each journey.
* Uphold our values of professionalism, confidentiality, and patient-centred care.
* Maintain statutory and mandatory CPD requirements as part of the role.

Responsibilities Summary:

As part of your role, you will be expected to:

* Undertake the full range of Emergency Ambulance Crew duties in line with Lifeline Medical Services policies.
* Work strictly within your scope of practice as defined by Lifeline Medical Services.
* Manage and administer medications in accordance with our Medication Management Policy.
* Record baseline observations and communicate findings to the lead clinician.
* Provide basic airway management (including OPAs) and assist with advanced airway care.
* Safely use AEDs, immobilisation equipment, lifting aids, and communications equipment.
* Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of patients and colleagues at all times.
* Be aware of safeguarding issues and follow reporting procedures.
* Complete vehicle daily inspections and ensure operational readiness.
* Maintain vehicles, equipment, and stations in line with the Infection Prevention and Control Policy.
* Ensure accurate, legible, and timely completion of patient and incident records in accordance with Caldicott principles, legislation, and information governance.
* Drive vehicles you are trained and authorised to operate, under both emergency and non-emergency conditions.
* Communicate effectively, adapting your style to overcome barriers with patients, relatives, colleagues, and other professionals.
* Complete mandatory training and CPD, ensuring professional competence is maintained.
* At all times demonstrate the highest standards of personal and professional conduct.

What you’ll need:

* Qualified Emergency Care Assistant, EMT1, or FREC 4 (or equivalent recognised qualification).
* Strong teamwork and communication skills.
* Flexibility and reliability – especially for short-notice work.
* Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
* A caring, professional attitude and commitment to patient wellbeing.

Desirable:

* Full UK Driving Licence with C1 entitlement (max 6 points).
* Emergency Driving Qualification (IHCD or Level 3 CERAD).
* Previous frontline emergency ambulance experience.
* Flexibility to work different shift types.

Additional Information:

* Base Location - Most work starts and finishes from our Warwick Bridge base near Carlisle.
* Shift Lengths - Typically 7–12 hours, with a minimum of 4 hours paid per shift.
* Uniform & Equipment - All uniform, equipment, and medication are provided.
* Driving Requirements - CERAD training is preferable but no C1 licence or CERAD qualification is required for this role.
* Progression Opportunities - Ongoing CPD opportunities and internal training.
* Induction & Familiarisation – We provide equipment familiarisation and processes induction prior to your first shift.

Apply now and be part of something different. Whether you’re looking for a change of pace, additional flexible shifts, or opportunities to broaden your experience, Lifeline Medical Services would love to hear from you.
