Overview
Research And Development Manager position based in Leeds, reporting into senior leadership. Lead and develop a multi‑disciplined group of engineers, delivering best in class problem solving and technical delivery within a forward‑looking, innovative, and sustainability‑focused chemical engineering business.
Responsibilities
* Line management of the technical resource
* Allocate resource to projects and support technical specialists in their development
* Coordinate technical resource deployment and skills to support and deliver formulation changes across company portfolios
* Assist the Head of Technical with planning and management of allocated budget within pre‑agreed tolerances, while delivering pipeline of new products/services, ongoing maintenance, and existing product enhancements
* Manage and report progress of key development projects across different segments, working cross‑functionally
* Stay abreast of the competitive landscape and latest developments across industries
* Lead technical contributions to SWOT analyses and build strategic plans for NPD (New Product Development), Technical Road Map, and CBI (Customer‑Backed Innovation)
* Communicate effectively with a customer‑focused mindset and maintain a commercial approach with customers, suppliers, and distributors
* Set a culture that motivates and engages direct and indirect report teams, with tailored personal development plans, regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and coaching standards
* Ensure compliance with all company regulatory and health and safety procedures and guidelines
Education and experience
* Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related Engineering discipline
* Knowledge of GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) quality requirements or relevantly skilled work
* Awareness of REACH, CLP, ISO 21469, NSF, AS9100
* Awareness of the significance and impact of robust project management in scientific and commercial contexts
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Excellent commercial awareness in technically focused environments
* Experience working with external suppliers and distributors
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office to a medium level
