Salary: £50,000 - 60,000 per year Requirements: We need experience in a fast-moving IT department at a senior technical level. We need prior experience in a similar role within a multi-site, medium to large enterprise. We need a deep and demonstrable understanding of SQL. We need experience with SQL Server versions, installation, and patching. We need experience with high availability solutions, including AlwaysOn availability groups and clustered instances. We need experience with ETL tools and techniques. We need experience tuning SQL queries and stored procedures for performance. We need experience with monitoring and alerting. We need a basic understanding of ITIL principles and how they support effective IT operations. Responsibilities: We administer and manage our SQL Server estate, ensuring reliability, integrity, security, and performance. We configure, maintain, optimise, and upgrade our databases and related systems. We work with Agile development teams to design, build, optimise, and implement databases for existing and new products. We proactively manage the day-to-day operations of our databases and infrastructure. We manage SQL servers, including configuration, tuning, backups, and disaster recovery. We manage database transitions across environments such as development, test, live, and migrations. We ensure our databases are functioning optimally, scalable, and regularly maintained. We provide regular reports on database performance and maintenance to our line manager. We keep up to date with the Microsoft SQL Server roadmap and support lifecycle. We plan upgrades and patching proactively and provide visibility of lifecycle risk. We understand our departments strategic objectives and support the delivery of related initiatives.
