Overview
Technical Integration Engineer — Full Time
Derby - (requires regular travel to remote sites in Cumbria and Caithness) / Hybrid Working.
The Irradiated Fuel Management (IFM) Engineering team is responsible for ensuring that the Post Irradiation Examination (PIE) requirements underpin core through life safety cases and keep Submarines at sea. We work with the UK National Nuclear Laboratory (UKNNL) in Cumbria and the Naval Reactor Test Establishment in Caithness to develop techniques and ensure the quality of data that underpins fleet operations. Your role is to work with our project team and technical leads within the supply chain to develop and support the application of techniques during PIE campaigns, in the short term for current class and for future products. This position provides an opportunity to develop collaboration skills, understand core validation approaches, and gain visibility across the business and the MoD.
What you will be doing
Within this opportunity you will have the chance to pursue and be responsible for:
* Providing on-site (Cumbria & Caithness) support for deployment and operations of PIE equipment to gather data required for core validation
* Development of Post Irradiation Examination inspection capabilities and processes in collaboration with suppliers
* Contribute/Lead activities to improve and drive delivery of the PIE campaigns
* Assisting in the ongoing development of primary supplier UKNNL capability
* Providing guidance to internal and external project and technical teams to ensure that we deliver the PIE data required to support operation of the Submarines fleet
Who we’re looking for
At Rolls-Royce we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. These principles guide our behaviours and are essential to our assessment process. To be successful in this role you will need to:
* Be a team player committed to working collaboratively with suppliers and customers (internally and externally).
* Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to provide support at remote locations, working independently as required and assisting with work packages outside of the IFM team as needed.
* Be comfortable representing the IFM team, able to challenge appropriately and work across business units and functions.
* Have a problem-solving attitude and a desire to improve processes and techniques both internally and in the supply chain.
* Hold a degree in an engineering or scientific discipline (preferred but not essential).
* Experience and understanding of PWR/Submarine core components, design, and manufacture (highly desirable but not essential).
What we offer
We offer excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits including bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts. Hybrid working balances time between office, home, or another remote location with an informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we’re expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.
