Clinical or Counselling Psychologist – Bath Centre for Pain Services
2 weeks ago – Be among the first 25 applicants.
Job Summary
Do you value enabling people to live well in the presence of the challenges life presents them? The Bath Centre for Pain Services (BCPS) provides treatment for people of all ages, from children to older adults, from across the UK and internationally, with all types of complex chronic pain. We offer a range of therapeutic interventions to enable people to lead a satisfying and good life in the presence of their ongoing pain, often providing life‑changing experiences.
Our treatment model is based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) which gives a foundation for creativity and innovation in therapy delivery. This post is suitable for a newly qualified Counselling or Clinical Psychologist or someone with experience wanting to develop ACT skills. You will benefit from a full induction covering chronic pain and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
We are looking for an individual who enjoys working in a team committed to high‑impact, evidence‑based treatment, likes a varied day, enjoys a clinical challenge and welcomes working alongside supportive and skilled colleagues.
Main Duties
Our service users are a diverse population with shared experience of chronic pain. We are committed to providing inclusive and diverse clinical care, encouraging applicants from all groups. This Band 7 Clinical or Counselling Psychology post (maternity cover) covers a breadth of clinical work rarely found. In addition to chronic pain, many patients have additional physical and mental health needs and span all ages.
BCPS has a well‑established National Specialist Service relocated to a new building at the Royal United Hospitals (RUH) specifically designed for us, giving a lovely place to work. We are the only Chronic Pain Service in the UK able to treat people of all ages with highly complex chronic pain associated disability who require care to participate in treatment.
Research and continuous professional development are integral to our work. The team regularly publishes and presents at scientific meetings, hosts a quarterly open lecture (‘Pain Forum’), holds weekly clinical development meetings and clinical supervision, and receives an annual training week with external trainers to further develop clinical skills.
About Us
At RUH, we put people at the heart of what we do, working together as one team to make a difference for our patients, each other, and our community. We value compassion, inclusivity, kindness and civility, and believe our diversity makes us stronger. We support staff wellbeing with a holistic approach covering physical, emotional, spiritual and financial wellbeing, and provide a range of benefits, including a pool.
