Job Title: Laboratory Assistant Contract : Permanent, Full-time (37.5 hours per week) Monday to Friday Location : Matrix Diagnostics, Waltham Abbey, EN9 3BZ Salary : £23,915.01 per annum As a Laboratory Assistant at Matrix Diagnostics, you will play a key role in supporting the smooth and efficient operation of our laboratory, ensuring samples are accurately received, processed, stored and managed within defined turnaround times. You will be central to maintaining sample integrity and traceability, using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and following established procedures to support high-quality diagnostic outcomes. Working closely with the wider laboratory team, you will help uphold regulatory, quality and data protection standards while delivering a high level of internal and external customer care. From coordinating referral samples and managing non-conforming submissions to maintaining laboratory equipment, stock levels and housekeeping standards, your contribution will directly support the reliability and effectiveness of our testing services. Main Objectives To effectively and efficiently manage samples into the appropriate laboratory workflows and to ensure appropriate storage and disposal of samples. All within defined Turnaround times. Specific Responsibilities Responsible for managing submissions (samples and supplies) with a high level of accuracy including attention to temperature control, storage / disposals and maintenance of sample integrity. Accurate record keeping in relation to the above. Responsible for accurate use of the Laboratory Management System (LIMS). Responsible for management of: B Sample processing. Referral samples / coordinating timely transfers. Managing deviating or non-conforming samples with associated record keeping. Sentinel and MRO logging, monitoring, tracking and uploads. DAMSP Certificate production and release. Responsible for scanning, filing and disposing of sensitive customer request forms in line with data protection and confidentiality requirements. Responsible for monitoring and acting upon correspondence via the laboratory shared mailbox ensuring a timely response is received by the customer. Responsible for stock taking to ensure uninterrupted supply of required laboratory consumables, chemicals, reagents and in house standards. Responsible for placing of orders using recognised suppliers and, from time to time, participate in the search for alternatives. Responsible for carrying out maintenance and calibration checks on general laboratory equipment to ensure its correct and effective operation including temperature monitoring and associated actions. Responsible for maintaining high levels of cleanliness and good housekeeping at all times. In conjunction with the Company’s Regulatory, Quality, Information Security and Environmental Systems Manager, ensure that all work is performed in accordance with ISO 17025, ISO 14001, ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 requirements in testing and quality control. Responsible for raising non-conformances, planned deviations, changes, risks and improvements as required. Provide support in investigating non-conforming work. To become familiar with and comply with all relevant Health and Safety procedures to ensure safety of all staff. To adhere to company policies and business systems manuals. To adhere to all policy, procedure, regulatory, customer and standard requirements relating to quality, information security and environmental management systems. To ensure commitment to impartiality and confidentiality, integrity and accessibility of information. To participate in Team Meetings and take an active interest in the functions of the laboratory. To work with the team to drive the laboratory forward through continuous improvement. To assist with audits as required To participate in annual Appraisal. To participate in any relevant training as required. To provide a high level of internal and external customer care. Requirements for this role Science based A-levels. No previous laboratory experience is required but would be desirable.
