As our Online Services Technical Director, you will be responsible for the development and operation of our online platforms, ensuring seamless integration with our games and delivering exceptional multiplayer experiences. Leveraging your technical expertise and leadership skills, you will lead a team of engineers to design, implement, and optimise scalable and reliable online services that enhance player engagement and satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
* Develop and execute the technical strategy for online services, aligning with the studio's overall vision and goals.
* Lead and mentor a team of talented senior engineers, providing guidance, support, and inspiration to drive excellence in online service development.
* Hands on with design, architecture, and implementation of robust online platforms, including matchmaking systems, leaderboards, and social features.
* Implement performance monitoring and optimisation techniques to ensure the responsiveness, stability, and scalability of online services, minimising latency and downtime.
* Establish and enforce security protocols and compliance standards to safeguard user data and ensure regulatory compliance.
* Collaborate closely with game development, QA, and product management teams to integrate online services seamlessly into game experiences and deliver outstanding multiplayer functionality.
* Manage relationships with third-party vendors and technology partners, leveraging external expertise and resources to enhance online service capabilities and efficiency.
* Identify potential risks and vulnerabilities related to online services, proactively implementing mitigation strategies and contingency plans to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
Skills and Qualifications:
* Experienced using one or (ideally) more primary development languages such as C#, Go, C++, Python
* Strong knowledge of K8S, AWS, Azure and/or GCP backend architectures
* Experience using one or more game engines (Unreal, Unity, Godot, proprietary)
* Proven track record of leading technical teams and driving results in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and implement effective solutions.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and foster collaboration across teams.
* Experience managing large-scale projects, setting priorities, and tracking progress to ensure timely delivery of milestones and objectives.
* Experience with authentication, matchmaking, chat, CMS system.
* Familiarity with agile development methodologies and experience working in iterative development environments with rapid release cycles.
* Strong knowledge of when and how to integrate 3rd party tools and systems vs developing from scratch.
* Genuine passion for video games and online gaming communities.
