We are seeking an experienced, visionary and dynamic Nursing Director to lead our Mental Health and Learning Disabilities (MHLD) services.
Reporting directly to the Director of MHLD, this is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, delivery and continuous improvement of nursing services across these sectors.
As Nursing Director for MHLD, you will provide professional leadership to our nursing workforce, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation and compassion. You will play a key role in transforming services, shaping clinical strategy and ensuring the highest standards of patient care and staff development.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, motivate and develop teams to deliver outstanding care across MHLD services
Drive service transformation aligned with clinical best practices and NHS Value
Provide expert nursing leadership at strategic level, influencing service delivery and operational planning
Ensure robust clinical governance and regulatory compliance
Collaborate at board and team level to influence strategic and financial planning
About You
Registered Mental Health nurse or learning disability nurse with current NMC registration
Significant senior leadership experience in Mental Health and or learning disability services
Proven track record in driving service improvements and delivering measurable outcomes

Main duties of the job
The MH&LD Nurse Director will provide and take responsibility for Nursing and leadership, building, motivating and developing a team of nurses, to drive forward service transformation across MH&LD services. As a member of the MH&LD Senior Leadership and Management Team, the MH&LD Nurse Director will hold responsibility jointly with other members of the MH&LD team for the strategic direction, and operational delivery of services.
The MH&LD Nurse Director is professionally accountable for the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care for services within the sphere of responsibility. This includes collaborating with colleagues to continuously promote multidisciplinary working and review the workforce plan for the future.
Key responsibilities will be to challenge, support, manage and develop the delivery of care systems relating to a single hospital and community model, with services delivered on multiple sites, through ensuring high levels of nursing and staff engagement that are outcomes focused, developing and implementing robust systems for performance and financial management with patient safety and quality governance at the heart of everything that we do.

Qualifications And Knowledge
Essential criteria
Registered Mental Health Nurse or Learning Disability Nurse with current NMC registration
Masters level qualification in management/leadership or equivalent knowledge and extensive experience to Masters level in a senior leadership role within the area of speciality
Evidence of Continuous Professional development
In depth professional specialist knowledge and experience of managing a number of disciplines acquired through training and experience over a significant period
Demonstrates a broad understanding of the key determinants of health and healthcare
Expert knowledge of the current nursing and health agenda, NHS policy and other key policy drivers
Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of infection prevention, nutrition, spiritual care, and all aspects of facilities management
Knowledge of Standards for Healthcare Services as they relate to Nursing, Patient Services and infection Prevention and Control
Up to date knowledge of nursing management theory
Clear understanding of the concept and working arrangements of diverse clinical areas
Demonstrate a working knowledge of clinical pathways
Detailed knowledge of all aspects of research methodology and can demonstrate how research has influenced their practice Desirable

Extensive and varied experience based on working in a strategic nursing role with a track record of achievement
Significant senior operational nursing management experience across a range of healthcare setting
Extensive senior managerial and proven experience of budgetary and staff management across several services
Considerable experience of working at, or just below, Board level
Considerable experience and highly developed clinical skills which are used in the day to day management of a MH&LD Service
Evidence of managing resources in a complex environment
Ability to think, plan and deliver strategically
Complaints management and experience of the litigation process
Extensive experience of effective partnership / multi agency / cross agency working in support of local and national strategy
Extensive experience of developing and preparing complex strategic & operational plans
Extensive experience of leading and successfully implementing service improvement / redesign programmes in a multi-disciplinary environment / across a range of services
Developing and delivering governance systems including management and mitigation of risk
Extensive experience of effective patient / public /customer involvement
Extensive experience of implementing quality systems and benchmarking
Extensive experience of policy development and implementation across a range of services
Has significant experience and knowledge at a senior management level in a complex service organisation
