Building Control Surveyor Role
Sellick Partnership is currently assisting in the recruitment of a Building Control Surveyor for a large and reputable local authority based in the Northwest of England.
The Building Control Surveyor will take lead accountability in a specialist area, delivering major technical projects, corporate initiatives, and work packages. They will act as a subject matter expert overseeing the development of innovative frameworks that ensure effective technical services and support key strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead on complex and innovative building control matters, ensuring technical solutions comply with legislation and customer needs.
2. Deliver and manage major work packages and projects aligned with the organisation's legal, regulatory, and strategic objectives.
3. Examine building plans and inspect works across all building types (excluding Class 3 Specialist Inspector cases) under building control legislation.
4. Enforce public safety legislation, including work related to dangerous structures, demolitions, and sports ground safety.
5. Act as the lead contact for key citywide developments, ensuring plan checking and site inspections are delivered effectively and efficiently.
6. Provide technical leadership, support, and mentoring to surveyors/engineers, including assisting with complex cases and staff development.
7. Manage or contribute to resource planning, including staff, financial, and operational inputs, to support continuous service improvement.
8. Build strong stakeholder relationships through effective communication and negotiation, ensuring delivery aligns with customer requirements.
9. Participate in out-of-hours emergency response for dangerous buildings and support internal governance and inspection processes.
10. Champion diversity, continuous personal development, and uphold the council's values in all aspects of service delivery and team leadership.
Requirements:
* Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field with professional membership of a recognised body (e.g., MCABE, MCIOB, MRICS, MIStructE, CEng).
* Registered as a Class 2 Building Inspector under the Government's competency scheme.
* Relevant experience in building control within a Local Authority or Approved Inspector setting.
