The Role
As the Work Experience Coordinator (WEC), you will work collaboratively within a small team to support work experience placements for students within Defence, providing opportunities for them to develop skillsets and experiences for future employment. Under the guidance of the Work Experience Manager, you will coordinate a range of administrative tasks, including liaising with schools, parents, youth, diversity-related organisations, and Defence personnel.

The role requires managing competing deadlines across tasks, so strong organisational and communication skills are essential. When not supporting stakeholders through coordination tasks, you may also assist with the on-the-ground delivery of work experience programs as a program supervisor.

With notice, this may involve travel to Defence bases across NSW. Opportunities may be available for travel interstate to support our programs and expos nationally. Employees are supported to work from home when not supporting programs or expos.

About our Team
The Youth Policy and Programs Directorate has approximately 30 positions, geographically spread across Australia. We deliver the Defence Work Experience Program for students aged 15-24, are responsible for the enterprise-wide Defence Youth Policy suite, and support and encourage the harmonisation of youth programs and initiatives across the Defence portfolio. Our work area is driven by Defence's commitments made in the Defence Strategic Review 2023, National Defence Strategy 2024, Defence Workforce Plan 2024 and the Defence White Paper 2016.

Our Team members are supported with opportunities for continuous learning and professional development. There are a number of career paths within the team, including roles in youth policy or in progressing harmonisation initiatives. The work experience roles will require individuals to work at particular sites/regions to deliver and develop programs, but will have flexibility in working arrangements outside these operational requirements.

13. Will prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
14. Apply judgement, knowledge and limited discretion in interpreting and applying policy, guidelines and procedures.
15. The ability to travel, both intra and interstate is a requirement of this position.
