Overview
Are you an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist with a passion for work within an inpatient mental health setting? We are seeking a proactive, compassionate, caring and recovery focused HCPC registered Occupational Therapist with excellent communication skills to join our existing multidisciplinary teams to be involved in holistic assessments and interventions to support the planning and delivery of patient care.
Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), deducted from salary over the first 2 months of employment. You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service (annual fee £16).
Responsibilities
* Senior Band 6 Occupational Therapist who will manage a clinical caseload and provide group and individual interventions.
* Plan, implement and lead a high-quality Occupational Therapy Service with service users on the locked rehabilitation wards at Bracken House.
* Clinically supervise Occupational Therapy staff within the team and other support staff, providing guidance and ensuring safe working practices.
* Receive managerial supervision from the Ward Manager and act as Practice Placement Educator for Occupational Therapy students, providing student placements in accordance with local agreements and standards; support students from other disciplines.
* Liaise with a range of agencies and services across Nottingham.
* Continuously develop the Occupational Therapy Service in a client-centred, recovery-focused, evidence-based context and influence wider team development.
* Represent and promote the specialist role of occupational therapy, including service planning and development, and support practice placements for OT students and other disciplines.

Job Description / Responsibilities
The post holder is responsible for the day-to-day safe and effective running and provision of Occupational Therapy on the wards, coordinating the OT service and supervising OT staff and other support staff, ensuring safe working practices.
You will assess service users’ needs, identify effective OT plans, and implement them. This requires understanding acute and complex needs and treatment approaches relevant to this client group, effective communication with a wide range of multidisciplinary colleagues and agencies, and prioritisation of work while guiding other staff.
You will lead the OT team to provide therapy services to the acute wards. The team includes peer support workers, carer peer support workers and activity coordinators.
You will actively work to develop the OT Service in a client-centred, recovery-focused, evidence-based context and influence wider team development, and support practice placements for OT students and other disciplines.
The post holder will represent and promote the specialist role of occupational therapy including service planning and development and support practice placements for students.
Person Specification
Contractual Requirements and Qualifications
* Essential: Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy; Maintain HCPC registration; further specialist knowledge or post-registration experience.
* Desirable: Continued professional development to maintain registration; full UK driving license and vehicle for business use (reasonable adjustments available per Equality Act 2010).
Experience
* Essential: Experience commensurate with a senior post; mental health experience with acute and longer-term conditions.
* Desirable: Recovery-focused practice.
Knowledge
* Essential: Knowledge of OT interventions, models, evidence-based practice; knowledge of current legislation and clinical risk assessment.
* Desirable: Experience supervising and leading staff.
Skills
* Essential: Excellent OT assessment, intervention and evaluation; risk assessment and management; ability to lead a team; independent working; clinical supervision and leadership; flexibility and conflict management; IT skills.
* Desirable: High emotional intelligence.
