Activity Leader - Summer - Canterbury, Kent
Hours of work: 08:30 – 17:30
Salary: £412.00 – £559.17 per week, depending on age, experience, and qualifications. (Contracts for February Half Term will be issued at 2023 wage levels. 2024 wage levels are effective from 1st April.)
Reporting to: Camp Senior Team, Area Manager, and Central Office

Activity Leader contracts are based on a minimum of 4 days per week, with an allocated day off each week, confirmed by your Recruiter/Camp Manager. There may be occasions when working all 5 days is required due to booking and staffing needs, with prior confirmation. Notifications about schedules are provided weekly. Requests for specific days off should be approved in advance, but cannot be guaranteed.
*Easter and May half-term contracts will be based on 3-day weeks, with a designated day off as described above.
Activity Leader Duties
* Assist with setting up and maintaining a welcoming base room, ensuring it remains tidy and equipment is stored properly.
* Follow policies and procedures to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for children.
* Adhere to the activity timetable to deliver a variety of sessions as promised.
* Collaborate with team members to deliver sessions effectively.
* Supervise children actively, ensuring their safety and well-being during breaks and lunch.
* Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate activities using available resources.
* Encourage children’s participation and get to know their interests to personalize their experience.
* Take responsibility for the children’s welfare and safeguarding.
* Ensure the safe use and storage of equipment.
Requirements
* Experience or qualifications working with children.
* Aged 18 or over at the start of the contract.
* Eligible to work in the UK.
* Provide satisfactory references.
* Enthusiastic, caring, organized, with excellent communication skills and initiative.
* Adaptability to handle unpredictable childcare challenges.
* Enhanced DBS check or existing check on the Update Service.
* Attend a Virtual Assessment Event if new to Barracudas.
* Complete annual online training and a pre-season induction.
* Assist with camp pack-up at the end of the season.
Additional Responsibilities
* Follow health and safety protocols diligently.
* Organize activities appropriate to your skills and qualifications.
* Encourage children to try new activities and follow the timetable.
* Maintain safety and behavior standards, knowing children’s whereabouts and respecting their individuality.
* Follow all camp procedures and guidelines to ensure safety and welfare.
* Act as a positive role model, promoting health, hygiene, and welfare.
* Report child protection concerns promptly.
* Make reasonable adjustments for children with additional needs.
* Support delivery of Skills Builder sessions and swimming sessions if required, bringing appropriate gear.
* Perform other duties as necessary within your role and the organization’s objectives.
