Salary: £93,974- £101,121 (including Market Supplement*) - LA terms & conditions. NHS Pension available for those on the NHSPS

We have ambitious plans for Walsall with Public Health driving change to reduce inequalities and maximise potential as part of Our Council Plan.

Walsall Council is offering an exciting opportunity to join our progressive team, working agilely. This is a role within a talented multi-disciplinary team, providing core public health expertise and assurance to the Council, health and care economy and partners across the Borough. The teams’ work programme includes:

* Health Protection and Healthcare
* Inequalities, Mental Wellbeing and Healthy Ageing
* Young People and Health Improvement
* Training (including oversight of apprentices)

The portfolio for the Consultant in Public Health post will offer a stimulating mix of work with multidisciplinary teams across Walsall and the Black Country, supporting building the evidence about what works in new and existing interventions and innovations, and how we can create communities and an economy that places wellness as the cultural norm. The key areas of responsibility for the post will include leadership of our Inequalities, Substance Misuse and Mental Wellbeing portfolio in the first instance.

We have strong working relationships with local colleagues and encourage the new post holder to be closely involved in the future development of a broad range of established areas of local work, particularly in the areas of inequalities, substance misuse and mental wellbeing.


Responsibilities

* Develop and lead public health strategies across the portfolio of Inequalities, Substance Misuse and Mental Wellbeing.
* Build constructive relationships with senior colleagues in local authorities, the NHS and other partners in complex environments.
* Provide strategic public health leadership on different work programmes and help transform public health outcomes for Walsall residents.
* Be actively involved in developing areas of interest and utilise local, regional and national links.


Requirements / Qualifications

* Demonstrated experience in public health leadership and working with multidisciplinary teams.
* GMC Specialist Register in Public Health or UK Public Health Register for Public Health Specialists, or in the final stage of Public Health training (or equivalent).
