Dorset Council Fleet Services have a vacancy for a full time Commercial Vehicle Technician at its workshop in Shaftesbury. However, we welcome applications from candidates from other areas in Dorset as there is the option of starting and finishing at one of our other workshops located around the county.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your main role will be to service and maintain refuse collection vehicles based at this depot. The work includes:
* completing safety inspections on vehicles
* servicing and preparing vehicles for annual test including steam cleaning.
* The scheduled work will be interrupted by unscheduled breakdowns and running defects repairs so you will need to be flexible in how you approach your work
* Whilst most rectification work is performed in the workshop; you may on occasion be asked to attend a road-side breakdown
* There may be occasion when you will need to work beyond your normal hours to get a frontline vehicle back on the road
* You may be asked to work from one of the other four vehicle workshops, if the service requires
Other Duties Will Include
* good housekeeping in the workshops and attending any training that the Council arranges for you

What We’re Looking For
* have prior experience of working on commercial vehicles
* hold a NVQ Level 3 or City and Guilds Level or equivalent qualification in vehicle maintenance/engineering
* a full UK driving licence is required (a provisional licence is not acceptable) and Class C entitlement is essential
* candidates will be expected to demonstrate a sound knowledge of vehicle maintenance procedures and the DVSA guide to "Maintaining Roadworthiness Commercial, Goods and Public Service Vehicles."
