Mechanical Project Engineer – Staff – Salary + Benefits – Staffordshire
Our client a global leader in emissions control is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer on a permanent staff basis.
Duties:
* Serve as the primary technical interface for clients and internal project teams.
* Address technical queries from suppliers and support the Project Manager with escalated issues.
* Lead technical discussions to clarify requirements and resolve engineering challenges.
* Collaborate with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure smooth project execution.
* Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities (Process, CAD, Mechanical, E&I).
* Work with project managers on budgeting, communication of budgets, and adherence to constraints.
* Apply economic thinking by evaluating cost, value, and trade-offs in engineering decisions.
* Monitor progress of engineering deliverables and address delays or conflicts.
* Maintain effective communication across disciplines for design consistency and integration.
* Create, modify, review, and approve technical documents to meet project standards.
* Confidently read and interpret P&IDs for design and integration tasks.
* Maintain interface matrices, integration plans, and action logs.
* Provide technical input during design reviews, risk assessments, and project meetings.
* Assist with planning and scheduling activities related to systems integration.
* Support procurement through material requisitions and technical review of supplier quotations.
* Assess client comments on documents and identify potential scope changes.
* Share lessons learned and best practices to promote continuous improvement.
* Prepare and deliver technical reports, updates, and presentations.
* Provide technical support for commissioning planning and start-up activities.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Minimum HNC or equivalent, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
* Experienced project engineer in regulated industries such as Oil & Gas, Chemical, Petrochemical, COMAH or similar sector.
* Knowledge and experience working with mechanical equipment such as vessels, process skids, pipework, valves, filters and pumps.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and general IT applications.
* Thorough knowledge of industry standards and specifications, combined with expertise in their practical interpretation and application
