Volunteer Trustee specialising in Law for a young dynamic Community Dance based Organisation | Dacorum Community Dance
We seek new Trustees to join our Board. You will be actively involved in supporting and overseeing the growth of our young and dynamic charity, and to contribute to the strategic direction and decisions of the organisation.
We are a small charity still in our infancy and need active support to push forward with all the opportunities that lie ahead of us. Dacorum Dance has been running since 2018. We are a community oriented dance group committed to enhancing physical activity, addressing social isolation, and promoting mental wellbeing through accessible and affordable dance programmes. We have a passion for creative activity that is proven to help build confidence and provide a sense of belonging, enabling people to fulfil their potential by encouraging positive change. We have been running as a not for profit unincorporated constituted group but are in the process of applying for Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) status. We must be compliant with charity law and collectively, it is the role of the Board of Trustees to ensure this happens as well as to oversee the general strategic direction and financial stability of Dacorum Dance.
Responsibilities
What will you be doing?
* Provide hands-on governance and strategic support to actively contribute to the growth of the charity.
* Attend Board meetings up to 4 times a year and participate in strategy discussions, fundraising, press opportunities, and special projects as needed.
* Assist with strategy discussions, fundraising, project visits, project celebration events, and other activities on an ad-hoc basis.
* Support operations and ensure compliance with charity law as trustees of a CIO or charity in formation.
Qualifications & Characteristics
We are looking for candidates with professional backgrounds in charity law and experience in one of the following areas: business development, communities, fundraising, governance, marketing & PR, or charity management. We seek hands-on Trustees with time and energy to contribute meaningfully to the development of the organisation. All Dacorum Dance Trustees should display the following characteristics:
* Commitment to and passion for Dacorum Dance and gender equality
* Willingness and reliability to devote the necessary time and effort
* Strategic vision
* Good, independent judgment
* Ability to think creatively
* Willingness to speak their mind
* Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
* Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
* Responsible, especially when handling sensitive and confidential information
* Be pro-active and support the operations of the Dacorum Dance
Commitment
Trustees are required to commit to a minimum term of 3 years. Trustees are to attend Board Meetings up to 4 times a year and will have opportunities to contribute to strategy, fundraising, press opportunities, one-to-one support, and other activities on an ad-hoc basis.
