Ward 10B is a thirty bedded medical ward, specialising in endocrinology and diabetology.

The post holder will support the team and to ensure that we provide high quality of care to our patient we aim to have Band 6 Nurse Team leaders on duty over a 24 -hour period.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for an experienced Band 5 or 6 nurses to join our 30 bedded Diabetes and Endocrine. Knowledge and skills in caring for Diabetes and Endocrine patients are essential.
We would also like the candidate to demonstrate effective leadership styles and is effective in managing the team as well as ensuring all patient quality indicators are achieved and maintaining support in a very busy multi-disciplinary environment.
You will work collaboratively with the senior team in Diabetes and Endocrinology to deliver effective high quality safe patient centred care.
You will support the continuing education, training, and professional development for the ward staff, to promote the acquisition of new skills and knowledge ensuring that nursing staff acquire and maintain the professional standards and competencies when caring for people.
Provide supervision and leadership to nursing staff under the guidance of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurses.

Qualifications/Training
Essential criteria
* RGN/RN Adult Branch
Desirable criteria
* Relevant health care related degree
* Appropriate post registration certificates
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
* Ward nursing management experience at upper band 5
* Extended role skills including IV drugs, cannulation and phlebotomy
Desirable criteria
* Experience in acute medicine and or Diabetes and Endocrine as an RN
* Involvement in audit / research and willingness to present findings at meetings and conferences.
Skills
Essential criteria
* Demonstrates a flexible approach, able to react to the changing needs of the department.
* Ability to communicate effectively – excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Evidence of leadership and motivational skills, ability to lead and motivate a team
* Motivation to work in the acute setting for diabetes and endocrinology care.
* Ability to use negotiating skills in a positive manner to influence change within the department
* Ability to liaise and work with the multidisciplinary team, making recommendations to enhance the smooth running and management of the department.
