Job Description

What if you could do the kind of work the world needs? At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives. You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.

With a team of over 480 engineers and advisors supporting UK and global energy generation and infrastructure projects, we are leaders in supporting energy infrastructure, DCO, Grid connections and interconnector projects. Our UK based teams are structured across a combination of sectors and service lines: Energy Transition and Transmission and Distribution have a sector focus while Advisory and Asset Management provide sector agnostic service across the lifecycle of our projects. Technology and Digital transformation offer opportunities for significant growth in these sector agnostic areas (supported by the technical engineering expertise across Energy Transmission and Transmission and Distribution).

A Little More About Your Role

The Senior Project Engineer will play an important role in engineering and technical matters associated with offshore wind projects with a particular focus on offshore substations and WTG foundations. This is a key growth area for WSP and offers an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and resourceful engineer to help drive and realise the company’s offshore wind strategy. The role will work across engineering and design, Owner’s Engineering and smaller scopes, requiring strong leadership and the ability to manage complex projects. The role requires flexibility to work across all work packages and, at times, support consultancy and strategic advisory projects in support of business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

* Support the technical leadership of large multi-discipline engineering and design projects and take on key positions such as Package Lead or Deputy Engineering Manager.
* Oversee the technical aspects of offshore wind structural engineering projects. Support design work and be prepared to review and author key project deliverables. Contribute to multi-discipline projects and provide design input into key processes such as offshore substation topside layouts.
* Support on Owner’s Engineer contracts and be competent to undertake and/or co‑coordinate design reviews; author key project documentation such as Basis of Design, Technical Specifications and Employer’s Requirements; support main asset procurement processes and manage risk and programme.
* Lead on smaller commissions and take on key positions such as Project Manager or Technical Lead.
* Support the Engineering Manager in developing and implementing new processes and procedures to streamline efficient delivery execution.
* Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the offshore wind sector, contributing to the growth of the engineering function. Represent the company in technical discussions with stakeholders including clients, regulatory bodies and industry partners.
* Lead and contribute to the development of bids and proposals with a particular focus on technical content.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant technical regulations, standards and best practices.
* Manage technical budgets, schedules and resources effectively.
* Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including engineering, project management, asset management, advisory and environmental teams.
* Stay up to date with the latest advancements in offshore wind technology and incorporate innovative solutions into projects.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate

* MEng in structural or civil engineering.
* Chartered Engineer or demonstrable progress in working towards.
* Experience in offshore wind engineering and design with a particular focus on offshore substations and WTG foundations.
* Track record of delivering engineering and design projects to at least Front‑End Engineering Design.
* Experience in developing key technical documentation in support of main asset procurement such as Employer’s Requirements and Scope of Works.
* Excellent knowledge of the offshore wind industry and project development.
* Knowledge of offshore wind industry standards.
* Knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and a demonstrable understanding of health, safety and environmental best practice.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills coupled with strong leadership and management experience.
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage own workload, meet timescales and coordinate internal and external stakeholders.
* An established network in the offshore wind industry.

Other Highly Advantageous Experience To Demonstrate Could Include

* Experience in detailed design, fabrication or transport and installation.
* Experience in both a developer and consultancy environment.
* Experience in supporting main asset procurement processes through development of procurement strategies, preparation of contract documents and undertaking reviews of contractor proposals.
* Site investigation surveys.
* Offshore wind geotechnical design.
* Project certification.
* Preparation of CAPEX estimates.
