Overview
The role of a Brain Injury Support Worker is to provide personalized care and support to individuals who have sustained a brain injury. They work closely with the client, their family, and healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive and tailored care. This position requires experience in supporting clients with challenging behaviors, expertise in managing epilepsy and seizures, and a deep understanding of the unique needs of individuals with brain injuries.
Location, hours and pay
Location: Watford
Hours: 6-hour shifts Mon-Fri after school; 8am-8pm Saturday and Sunday
Pay: £15.70 per hour weekdays, £16.75 per hour weekend shifts
About the client
Our client is an 8-year-old boy with a brain injury from birth. He is very mobile and active but has severe epilepsy which can result in a coma after seizure, so experience with epilepsy and seizure management is essential. He lives in a busy household with his family, including a younger brother with severe autism.
Key responsibilities
* Deliver personalized care and support to the client
* Assist with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, mobility, and meal preparation
* Administer medication and monitor health conditions
* Accompany the client in the community
* Provide emotional support and companionship
* Maintain accurate records of care provided and report any changes in the client's condition
* Collaborate with healthcare professionals and family members to ensure comprehensive care
Requirements
* Experience in a similar role, ideally supporting clients with challenging behaviours (mainly towards himself)
* Experience with brain injury & epilepsy
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Energetic, upbeat, and empathetic nature
* Awareness of accessibility — knowledge of wheelchair friendly routes, transport and venues
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Flexibility to work the specified hours
* Valid UK driver\'s license
* DBS paid for
* Excellent training program
