THIS IS A PERMANENT, PART-TIME POSITION.

We are looking to appoint a Chief Clinical Technologist to provide clinical leadership and management within the Nuclear Medicine Imaging Department at Singleton Hospital in Swansea. The ideal candidate will be a qualified Clinical Technologist with current RCT registration and with documented experience.

The suitable candidate will be expected to provide expert support within the SPECT-CT imaging section of the department which comprise two state-of-the art gamma-cameras with CT diagnostic capability and 3 DXA scanners. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing training, guidance and supervision to junior staff and students alongside specialist technical support and operational service management with the imaging section.

A static PET-CT service is likely to be implemented within the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Singleton in the next 12 to 18 months. That expansion will originate further opportunities for permanent positions within our service. The post-holder will be placed in a prime situation to identify career progression opportunities and to observe future role expansion prospects. This is an exciting opportunity to take part and lead change in a currently fast developing setting.

Main duties of the job

The department of Nuclear Medicine at the Singleton Hospital (part of Swansea Bay University Health Board) is a busy academic imaging department operating two diagnostic state-of-the-art SPECT-CT cameras (one of which is a UK-first with multiple CZT detectors), three bone densitometry (DXA) scanners, a new, purpose-built, radiopharmacy, a therapy section and a mobile PET-CT service. The Singleton Hospital is situated next to the sea in Swansea, and is also adjacent to the Swansea University (Singleton Campus), housing highly-rated science, pharmacy and medicine departments.

The Chief Clinical Technologist will be expected to provide technical support across the full range of Nuclear Medicine Services, including leading on complex imaging scanning and processing, imaging reporting and, in particular, support the Imaging section with operational leadership, specialist clinical supervision and operational management duties.

If a suitable candidate with the necessary level of experience cannot be identified, we will consider offering the post at a band 6 or under Annex 21.

The ability to travel between sites in a timely manner is essential.

The ability to work flexibly is essential for this post.

1. B.Sc (Hons) in Nuclear Medicine / Science
2. Registered Clinical Technologist with RCT or Registered Healthcare Science Practitioner with AHCS
3. Pg.Cert./Pg.Dip./M.Sc. in Nuclear Medicine

Experience

Essential criteria

4. Experience in phlebotomy and cannulation and intravenous administration of radiopharmaceuticals
5. Aseptic dispensing and administration of therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals
6. Radiation safety
7. Quality Control testing of radiation detection equipment
8. Standard infection control process relating to intravenous administrations
9. Staff/students training

Desirable criteria

10. Team management experience
11. Radioactive waste management

Skills

12. Ability and willingness to learn new techniques and to develop team capability in new techniques
13. A good communicator and an ability to obtain co-operation of staff and patients
