Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA)
Location: Wakefield, WF4
Salary: £86-£100 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are currently looking to appoint an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant for a range of schools in Wakefield. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting students who need additional behavioural and emotional support to succeed in their learning.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support pupils, both in and out of the classroom. You will provide targeted support to students with SEMH challenges, helping them access learning and develop essential social and emotional skills. This role is ideal for those with a strong understanding of behavioural interventions and experience working within specialist or mainstream provisions.
Your Responsibilities as an SEMH Teaching Assistant:
* Work 1:1 or in small groups with students with SEMH needs.
* Support students in managing behaviours and engaging in learning.
* Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff to develop and deliver personalised learning plans.
* Implement behaviour management strategies and support de-escalation using Team Teach techniques
* Promote positive relationships, emotional resilience, and social development.
* Adapt support according to students’ needs and their EHCPs
* Contribute to safeguarding and ensure the well-being of all Students.
SEMH TA Requirements:
* Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or similar needs as an SEMH Teaching Assistant.
* Must be Team Teach trained.
* Strong communication and de-escalation skills.
* A calm, patient, and consistent approach to behaviour management.
* A genuine passion for inclusive education and supporting vulnerable learners.
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
