Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Billing Administrator to join the Regulated Industry Billing Team within the National Income Service (NIS). The role will be part of a dispersed team, and the successful candidate will work with a variety of colleagues across the country.

We are looking for a motivated individual with good organisational skills that has a passion for making improvements. Supporting the Regulated Industry Billing Team, you will assist the drive in taking forward our ambition to develop an innovative and resilient income service, alongside supporting our teams to be the best they can be. The ability to build and maintain strong relationships is important as well as focus on quality and performance.

You will support and assist the delivery of billing functions within the NIS, with the goal of maximising income through accurate and timely invoicing, minimising debt and maximising cost recovery. You will be a creative individual who explores innovative solutions with good communication skills.

The team

The Regulated Industry Billing Team within the National Income Service are responsible for the billing and debt recovery of a variety of different workstreams and billing types within Regulated Industry, ranging from annual and supplementary subsistence billing for permitted activities, billing based on operator returns, and time & materials billing across the organisation.

Experience/skills Required

You will:


* have great communication and interpersonal skills and be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal colleagues and external customers.
* be resilient and able to flex plans to effectively manage and prioritise a varied workload.
* focus on delivering good quality outcomes and be able to embrace and suggest new and innovative ideas.
* be comfortable managing own workload working as part of a dispersed team.
* have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel & Word.
* be able to review and organise large data sets. Experience of billing activities and managing & reducing debt would be advantageous.
* have a passion for ensuring accuracy, problem solving, and confidently delivering solutions.


Contact and additional information

The National Income Service is a dispersed team so base location is flexible (subject to local facilities agreement). This is a full-time post, but we would welcome applications from those working part-time or flexible hours.

Travel to other Environment Agency offices or meeting venues may occasionally be required as part of the role.

Interviews are expected to take place via MS Teams in the week commencing 22nd June 2026.
