The Role As a Maintenance Engineering Technician, you’ll take a hands-on approach to the efficient operation, maintenance, and improvement of pilot plant equipment and R&D facilities. Approximately 85% site-based and 15% office/administrative, this multi-skilled role requires both mechanical and electrical expertise. You’ll be central to supporting process trials, troubleshooting technical issues, and implementing plant upgrades in collaboration with engineering and R&D teams. Key Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical systems and components Service plant equipment, control systems (HMI/PLC) and associated instrumentation Support the operation and development of lab and pilot-scale equipment Participate in R&D production trials, proof-of-concept testing and process optimisation Operate and maintain plant utilities and safety systems (gas burners, compressed air, ATEX extractors) Ensure availability of critical spares and maintain accurate records Liaise with approved OEMs and external contractors Produce clear documentation of work, observations, and equipment performance Support external and customer site trials as required Promote continuous improvement in maintenance, safety, and efficiency Abut you To succeed in this role, you’ll bring: HNC or equivalent in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (desirable) Minimum 10 years’ industrial maintenance experience in process, manufacturing, or heavy industry Knowledge of control systems, sensors, actuators, and plant instrumentation Welding experience (preferred) Previous exposure to pilot plant or R&D environments (advantageous) Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Proactive, self-motivated approach with excellent communication skills Commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards What’s on Offer Competitive salary Private medical insurance (including dental and optical) 25 days holiday plus bank holidays Company pension scheme On-site private parking Career development opportunities in a unique R&D environment Collaborative, forward-thinking team culture
