Overview
We’re looking for an experienced Grid Connections Manager to lead the development and delivery of grid connections for our large-scale renewable energy and battery storage projects. You’ll act as the key interface with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), Transmission Operators (TOs), National Grid ESO, and Independent Connection Providers (ICPs/IDNOs), ensuring projects achieve timely, cost-effective, and compliant grid access. This is a pivotal role where you’ll combine technical, commercial, and project management expertise to secure connections from inception through to energisation — driving the UK’s transition to a low-carbon energy future.
Responsibilities
* Applications & Agreements: Lead and manage G99, G100, Statement of Works, and Bilateral Agreements; negotiate and secure contracts, securities, and Joint Operating Agreements.
* Technical & Commercial Assessment: Analyse reinforcement needs and cost implications at distribution and transmission levels; identify optimisation opportunities and cost savings within grid offers; ensure compliance with evolving requirements under the NESO Connections Process (Gate 2 and beyond).
* Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong working relationships with DNOs, ICPs, IDNOs, ESO, Ofgem, EPC partners, designers, and legal teams; coordinate regular meetings with DNO project managers and maintain accurate records of progress.
* Connection Delivery: Oversee surveys, cable routing, meters, MPANs, and import/export agreements; ensure all project milestones align with grid offer requirements; facilitate LV and telecoms requirements for connections; anticipate risks such as grid availability, curtailment, or reinforcement delays; keep ahead of policy changes, code modifications, and emerging opportunities (flexibility markets, dynamic connections, storage integration).
What skills you will have
Experience
* Proven track record of securing and managing grid connections in the UK (distribution and/or transmission).
* Strong technical understanding of power systems, grid code requirements, and connection processes (G99, G100, ENA).
* Commercial awareness of cost drivers, reinforcement works, and flexibility services.
* Experience in renewable generation or energy storage (preferred).
* Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
* Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
Skill requirement
* Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or equivalent (Chartered Engineer desirable).
* Proficient in MS Office; AutoCAD experience beneficial.
* Familiarity with project management tools (MS Project, Primavera, or similar).
* Full UK driving licence.
What you will get from BSR
* Monthly social events, hybrid working policy (up to three days per week), and a range of benefits including enhanced parental leave, annual bonus, referral scheme, Employee Assistance Programme, professional membership funding, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (rollover up to 5 days), Long Service Recognition, Private Health insurance after probation, Life insurance, and Pension.
