About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join a fun, passionate and caring team, supporting and empowering young people aged 16-25 within our Life and Living Skills Programme and Residential College service.
During the week, you will be part of our Life and Living Skills Programme, where each young person follows a personalised programme designed to turn goals into real progress. This includes practical learning, new experiences, social opportunities, and meaningful activities that promote independence and confidence.
At weekends, you will support within our Residential College, working with young adults who attend the programme during the week.
All of our young people have a visual impairment alongside a range of complex needs (physical and/or emotional), meaning every day is varied and rewarding. Some individuals prefer structured routines, while others enjoy making their own plans, often a mixture of both, so you’ll need to be flexible, responsive, and able to use your initiative.
We follow an Active Support approach, doing things with people, not for them. Using a person-centred approach, you will support young people with all aspects of daily life, including developing independence skills, accessing the community, planning activities, and providing personal care in a respectful and dignified way.
Please note, this role includes a mix of team-based and lone working shifts. You will need to feel confident working independently, using your initiative to ensure safe, high-quality support at all times.
You will also support young people to explore future opportunities and transitions, which may include visiting services and helping them make informed choices about their next steps
About you
We are looking for kind, friendly and compassionate individuals with a minimum of two years’ care experience, who are motivated to make a positive difference in the lives of young people.
You will be confident providing one-to-one support, including delivering a high level of intimate personal care to young people of all genders, always maintaining dignity and respect.
The role also involves providing emotional and social support, including responding to behaviours of concern. Full training and ongoing support will be provided.
You will be someone who:
1. Is comfortable working both as part of a team and independently
2. Can use initiative and remain calm in a range of situations
3. Has strong communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills
4. Is committed to promoting independence and person-centred support
5. Has the ability to build trusting relationships and support individuals to achieve their goals.
