About the Role:
We are looking for a passionate and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a dynamic and supportive team within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU). This role is ideal for someone who is committed to supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH), and who thrives in a challenging yet highly rewarding environment.
As a Teaching Assistant in a PRU, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to engage pupils in learning, build trusting relationships, and help them develop the confidence and skills they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support students in and out of the classroom on a 1:1 or small-group basis.
* Help implement personalised learning plans and behaviour strategies.
* Assist in delivering engaging lessons across a range of subjects.
* Promote a safe, structured, and positive learning environment.
* Provide emotional and behavioural support to students with SEMH needs.
* Contribute to progress tracking, record-keeping, and feedback.
* Encourage student independence, confidence, and life skills.
* Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and external agencies.
Person Specification:
Essential:
* Experience working with young people, ideally in an educational or support setting.
* Confidence in managing challenging behaviour in a calm and constructive manner.
* A patient, compassionate, and adaptable approach.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable or excluded learners.
Desirable:
* Previous experience in a PRU, alternative provision, or SEN environment.
* Training in Team Teach, de-escalation, or behaviour management.
* Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, or SEN support).
* Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and trauma-informed practice
