Here at Serco, we are looking for a Custodial Manager (COM) to join our Justice & Immigration team at HMP Fosse Way, a Category C resettlement prison in Leicester with a capacity to house around 1,700 prisoners.
This role is ideal for someone looking to make a real difference and who understands that no two days are the same! As a designated COM, you may be assigned to any role within the prison. What remains constant is your commitment, enthusiasm, and support for our prisoners through positivity and engagement.
You will line manage your team with a collaborative approach and promote Serco's policies in all activities and behaviors by fostering diversity, decency, safety, and reducing re-offending.
A challenging, demanding, and varied role reporting to the Senior Custodial Manager and Assistant Director, with duties including:
1. Contributing to prisoner reports, including sentence planning and parole reports when required.
2. Ensuring all staff supervise, manage, and control prisoners decently, lawfully, safely, and securely during activities.
3. Managing incident documentation and logging into the Incident Reporting System (IRS).
4. Implementing actions from audits, HMIP inspections, and self-audits.
5. Planning staff rotas and managing the delivery of the regime.
6. Ensuring all Prison Service standards and SDIs are met within your work area.
Qualifications and Experience Needed
You must be a qualified Prison Custody Officer and have attended a Custodial Manager Assessment Centre or have experience as a Custodial Manager. Evidence of a commitment to learning through on-the-job projects, secondments, volunteering, or formal education is essential.
Line management experience is critical, as you will be responsible for ensuring your team has the necessary knowledge, skills, and confidence. You should embody the principles of dignity, decency, and security, demonstrating these actively to colleagues, prisoners, and stakeholders.
