Overview The safe and efficient operation of our assets is key to our business, without our assets our business doesn’t exist. As an Engineer, you will support daily cable operations, monitoring contractors and ensuring our suppliers deliver to the expected standards. The team is responsible for oversight on our cables in the UK and France. You will also be expected to become familiar with our converter station assets, access arrangements and emergency procedures to support their daily operation if required. You will be part of a 24/7 on-call team to support incident response and issue resolution. Due the security requirements of working within the Channel Tunnel complex, enhanced security checks will need to be completed prior to the role being formally offered. The role has no direct reports but will be required to work with external suppliers, consultants and contractors. Main responsibilities Daily Operations Engaging with suppliers and contractors to support operations Building relationships with stakeholders to facilitate efficient daily operations Identify improvements required within daily operations Ensuring that security, health, safety, and environmental policies and regulations are followed Providing technical guidance and advice, resolving technical issues, and checking drawings and specification Monitor operational expenditure and make recommendations on cost saving Support the scoping and delivery of projects that improve daily operations Risk Management Identify and document risks that would lead to an outage if they occurred and support their prevention and mitigation Effective document management, preparing site reports, logging progress, and maintaining accurate records Review and comment on contractors Risk Assessments and Method Statements in respect of General Safety Incident Response Supporting the running of outage simulations and ensure we have the procedures in place to mitigate risks Join ‘On-call Team’ which provides 24/7 remote and on-site response on a rota basis to manage operational issues on the interconnector Reporting Support effective reporting on internal performance and contractor performance Minimum Standards & Selection Criteria Experience required Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role at an interconnector, windfarm, transmission system operator or power generator Basic knowledge of operational and maintenance requirements for HVDC equipment Demonstrable experience of monitoring contractors, reviewing Risk Assessment Method Statements Experience in and the understanding of fault-finding process and asset related incident investigation Education Educated to A level / NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in mechanical or electrical engineering or other relevant qualification and/or work experience Skills and Competencies Good written and verbal communication skills Competent in the use of Microsoft suite of products Attention to detail and a strong focus on getting things right in the first place Organised and analytical with an attention to detail Ability to work under pressure in a continually growing environment Proactive and results orientated Ability to maintain strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders Always uphold the reputation of the Company Collaborative team player Fluent in English. Knowledge of French would be advantageous, but not essential Frequent travel will be required between Folkestone Calais (France) and London
