Job overview

The post holder will work as part of the team on the Post-Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU), caring for post-operative elective orthopaedic patients recovering from anaesthesia and those requiring HDU/ITU care post-operatively.

The post-holder will be expected to take on a leadership role - taking charge of the shift/unit when allocated to do so and to support the PACU Matron in management aspects of the running of the unit such as conducting audits. Policy implementation, in conjunction with the Matron, will also form part of this role.

Responsibilities will include supporting junior staff members and students, contributing to team development, and working and communicating seamlessly with the MDT. The post-holder will be expected to work within local standards and guidelines and strive to meet the unit’s prompt discharge culture.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will assist in providing clinical Leadership, advice and support for junior nursing staff employed by the South-West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (EOC). The expectations within this job description will be met through professional leadership, hands on clinical practice, education and training, and research.

Assist in the development of strategies to ensure ‘seamless’ Orthopaedic care for patients across multi-professional teams in primary, secondary and intermediate care settings, informed by direct involvement in care provision.

Assist in the development of nurse/therapist led services

Assist in the development of EOC as a model-learning environment for all levels of nursing and therapy staff
