Overview
Position: Class 1 Driver
Contract Type: Permanent – 45 hours per week
Location: York
Shift: Nights / Monday-Friday / 20:00-06:00
Salary: £41,535
About the role
You will drive a lorry from our fleet of Volvo vehicles, all under four years old. They’re a joy to drive and are equipped to a high specification, including fridges, leather seats and other features to ensure your comfort.
Most sites operate Monday to Friday, with a 45-hour working week and 9-hour shifts per day typically starting at 5–6 pm. Our well-organised shift schedules mean you often know in advance where you’ll be driving, taking the stress out of your day.
The role offers job security within a growing, global business. We operate a busy fleet, with opportunities to take on additional hours and enhanced pay rates for bank holidays.
You’ll be joining a friendly team who support each other, including sharing traffic updates through WhatsApp.
Key responsibilities
We don’t micromanage our drivers; we trust them to plan their own routes. This job involves trunking to regional hubs on the night shift, so if you enjoy independence on the open road for long stretches and being home at the end of each 9‑hour shift, this is the job for you.
You’ll ensure cages, pallets, freight, stillages and Yorks get to and from customers on time. At some sites goods will be loaded or unloaded for you; at others you’ll need to do it yourself. Scanning consignments and driving pallet trucks will sometimes be part of your day.
You’ll be responsible for inspecting your vehicle and trailer daily and completing a Defect Report if necessary.
You will make sure everything is “right first time” for customers, internal and external, and as a great communicator you’ll work to keep customers happy; any queries you can’t answer should be passed on quickly to your site manager.
Qualifications
* Class 1 Driving licence as a minimum
* Driver CPC qualification card
* Completed required Driver CPC training hours or be working towards them
* Excellent knowledge of road transport laws and commitment to safe use of the roads
* A “can do” attitude
