Job details Posted 03 October 2025 Salary £46,200 - £51,547 per annum LocationMiddlesbrough Job type Fixed Term Contract Middlesbrough College, Management Reference003643 Expiry 10 November 2025 Job Advert Job Title : Group Accountant (12 Months fixed term contract) Location: Middlesbrough College Main Campus, TS2 1AD Department : Finance Reporting to : Executive Director of Finance Salary: £46,200 - £51,548 per annum Annual Leave: 36 days per annum plus bank holidays Contractual hours : 37 hours per week Basis: 12 months Fixed Term Pension: Local Government Pension Scheme Join Our Team We are seeking a proactive and experienced Finance Manager to support the Executive Director of Finance and Vice Principal (Finance & Registry). This key role will lead the general accounts team, ensuring the delivery of accurate and timely financial reports and management accounting information across the organisation. With hands-on involvement in budget setting, forecasting, scenario modelling, year-end reporting and audit preparation, the successful candidate will play a vital part in maintaining financial integrity and supporting strategic decision-making. What You’ll Be Doing As a Group Accountant, you will: Support the Executive Director of Finance and Vice Principal (Finance and Registry) by producing accurate and timely financial information and analysis for the production of the group management accounts pack. Manage the departmental budget review and business partnering process for non-curriculum areas including production and circulation of monthly reports and review and challenge of performance against budget and forecast covering income, staffing expenditure and other non-pay costs. Be responsible for maintaining the model which costs the College’s forward staffing commitments. This includes undertaking scenario analysis when required to evaluate changes in resource levels, rates of pay, pay awards/increments and changes to pension arrangements. Complete monthly balance sheet control account reconciliations on a timely basis, overseeing all control reconciliations and checking for completeness, accuracy and reasonableness, including the entering, checking and posting of certain financial journals. Operate as part of the finance management team including line management of three direct reports and responsibility for certain key finance authorisation activities such as BACS runs.
