About the apprenticeship
Duties
Under the guidance and supervision of suitably trained staff, the apprentice will develop skills and abilities in, and assist the various departments with:
1.To complete the Apprenticeship Framework and undertake any other training relevant to the role including coaching from a supervisor and on the job training.
2.To attend and take part in regular team meetings and regular reviews with line manager etc.
3.To work towards the AAT qualification in Accounting.
4.To work in a professional manner and portray a positive image of the council in the workplace.
5.To assist in ensuring the aims and objectives of the Unit’s Business Plan and section action plans are effectively delivered.
6.To provide assistance in the maintenance and closure of the Council’s accounts and in-year budgetary control process.
7.To input journal entries into the Council’s Financial Information System (Ledger).
8.To undertake basic reconciliations of balance sheet and control accounts.
9.To assist in general office routines and responsibilities including mail room, photocopying, filing and routine data entry.

Who We’re Looking For
The Accountancy Service is looking for a motivated and well-organised individual who has excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and is a real team player.
The role will provide a fantastic opportunity to work alongside experienced members of staff, develop accountancy knowledge and skills that will complement professional development and play an important part in supporting the delivery of high-quality accountancy support services.
Entry Requirements
The applicant must possess 5 GCSE’s at A-C grade including Maths, English and a Science based subject or equivalent.
What Will You Study?
All Apprentices will be supported to complete a qualification in AAT, Level 2 & 3 via a training provider or local college
What will you be paid?
This is a fixed term post for a two-year period and will start in September 2024. You will be paid National Minimum Wage dependent on age:
•21 & over - £11.42
•18 - 20- £8.60
•Under 18- £6.40

Due to the Apprenticeship entry criteria, applications cannot be accepted from any applicant who has already gained a similar qualification at level 3 or above in the role applied for.
For example, if you have a degree in Civil Engineering you will not be eligible to apply for a Civil Engineering apprenticeship post. However, you could apply for any other apprenticeship post. Any such applications will not be considered.
