Opportunities include day-to-day cover, short-term placements, and longer-term supply roles for those who prefer consistency.

These settings support pupils with autism, learning difficulties, communication needs, sensory processing differences, and a wide range of cognitive and developmental profiles. About the Pupils and Their Needs

As an SEN supply teacher, you may work with pupils who:

* Have autism spectrum conditions with communication and sensory needs

* Experience moderate to severe learning difficulties (MLD/SLD)

* Have speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)

* Need support with social interaction and understanding social cues

* Have cognitive delays affecting processing, memory, or problem-solving

* Experience sensory overload, shutdowns, or require regulated sensory input

* Feel anxious around changes in staff, routines, or transitions

A predictable, supportive approach helps pupils feel safe and ready to learn in supply situations.





Role Responsibilities

As an SEN Supply Teacher, you will:

* Deliver pre-planned lessons and adapt tasks to meet pupil needs

* Follow established routines to maintain structure and consistency

* Work closely with TAs and follow guidance from SENCOs and class teachers

* Use TEACCH-style structure, visual supports, communication aids, and sensory strategies

* Build quick rapport to promote engagement and positive behaviour

* Support personal care routines where required

* Uphold safeguarding, behaviour, and reporting expectations for each school

Longer-term supply roles may involve planning, assessment, and will be paid in line with the Teacher Pay Scale (MPS/UPS).

Requirements

* QTS or QTLS

* Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain)

* Right to work in the UK
