This post is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual with extensive theatre and perioperative nursing experience and leadership skills, who is highly motivated, energetic and driven. The post holder will work collaboratively with the Divisional Triumvirate teams and Director of Nursing. You will professionally and clinically support the leadership of the nursing workforce for allocated service areas.

As the post holder you will be responsible for the provision of safe, quality and effective services, as well as day to day operational management of the services within your remit. You will ensure the Theatre and Perioperative Medicine services provide the highest standards of professional practice, budgetary and performance management, and service improvement at all times; driving quality in our services to ensure outstanding patient care is at the heart of all we do.

We are seeking to recruit an inspirational leader with the ability to provide strategic vision, clinical expertise and the ability to direct and influence change and to develop and support the operational and strategic portfolio. You will possess a demonstrable record of success in change management, service improvement and reduction of harm.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide forward thinking clinical and professional leadership to nursing staff at all levels within their service group, ensuring that nursing care is delivered to a high standard and that the nursing resource is managed effectively. She/he contributes to the ongoing implementation of the nursing and midwifery strategy, ensuring achievements of all its objectives and proactively modernising nursing roles in accordance with the needs of the patients. She/he will also undertake key functions of the Modern Matron role ensuring the patient experience in wards/departments is of the highest possible standard at all times with particular emphasis on dignity and compassion.

The post holder will work in partnership with the Service Clinical Director and Service General Manager in developing the services strategic direction and policy framework, ensuring that the service contributes significantly to the achievement of the corporate objectives and that effective governance arrangements are implemented and maintained.

Essential criteria

1. Experience working in a senior nursing role (8a or above) in a Theatre & Peri-Operative environment.
2. Evidence of managerial responsibilities and operational experience in an acute setting, including experience in the supervision of staff and students, including HR issues
3. Ability to analyse complex problems and to develop practical and workable solutions to address them;
4. Ability to think and plan strategically, tactically and creatively, and to prioritise work programs in the face of competing demands;
5. Ability to manage and deliver to deadlines and within resources
6. Significant financial and budgetary management, with evidence of contributing to cost improvement programmes

Skills

Essential criteria

7. Able to evaluate and be critical of self
8. Extensive complex staff management experience
9. Ability to initiate and implement large scale change
10. Good analytical & organisational ability
11. Demonstrates strong leadership skills
12. Ability to influence and facilitate MDT working
13. To have effective problem solving & QI skills
14. Awareness of developments in the NHS and service delivery

Knowledge

17. Extensive clinical and managerial knowledge and experience in Perioperative and/or Critical Care settings
