Position Title: Lead Seat Belt Engineer

Role Profile
1. Body Engineering is one of the largest departments within the Client.
2. With an increasingly demanding premium customer and rapidly changing technologies and materials, Body Engineering has to stay at the forefront of vehicle innovation and research.

4. The purpose of this role is to coordinate the design, development, testing and introduction of new or modified seat belt system across specific programmes.
5. Operating in a cross-functional organisation, the Lead Engineer will report into the Group Leader and, where delivering on specific vehicle programmes, have a matrix report into the programme Technical Chapter Lead.
6. The role requires the individual to deliver the commodity plan to quality, cost and time and lead the technical content and integrity of the seat belt systems across specific vehicle programmes.
7. The Cabin & Safety Systems department has complete responsibility for the design and development of all the Clients' Interior cabin and safety systems from concept design through to volume production.
8. With an increasing emphasis on virtual development techniques the department utilises advanced CAD and CAE to support the product development process.
9. A role within the Safety Component Group involves working with a wide range of development tools within challenging functional and cost targets and significant liaison with all internal areas of our business as well as external component and system suppliers.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
10. Support the on-cycle squad (including direction from Tech Chapter Leader, Product Owner and Scrum Master) in order to deliver the ABR/PI aspiration, delivering value in each sprint, aligned to the relevant Programme Group vision and epics.
11. Contribute to the delivery of the seat belt system onto the programmes, in line with the Product Creation & Delivery System and/or Agile methodology.
12. Own and deliver the commodity plan to quality, cost and time, including maintaining the Worldwide Engineering Release System (WERS)
13. Own and deliver the Engineering Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) deliverables.
14. Manage component and sub-system test plans, including detailed planning of test and development stages through to design verification sign off and support Engineering test teams with rectification of issues.
15. Resolve issues with component and sub-system engineering and vehicle attribute teams to develop designs that meet targets
16. Ensure all appropriate Client standards and applicable regulations are met through-out design maturation.
17. Developing and managing the implementation of feasible technical solutions to achieve programme targets.
18. Programme targets for cost, weight, quality (utilising Failure Mode Avoidance techniques) and functional performance.
19. Legal regulations, component and sub-system engineering (RMDV) requirements.
20. Optical Quality and PCPA (Premium Consumer Product Audit) requirements.
21. Keeping all engineering documentation up to date including:
22. Engineering and Business Meeting minutes
23. Foundation and Programme Design analysis documents
24. Quality history and Bill of Design
25. JIRA, RMDV, WERS, APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning), PPAP
26. Interfacing with key programme attribute teams to support the delivery of all vehicle attribute requirements, especially the vehicle safety attribute
27. Managing all the key stakeholders associated with safety component development (e.g. Suppliers, Purchasing, Vehicle Engineering, Quality, Design, Optical & Perceived Quality, Finance, Manufacturing, Service, Logistics, etc)
28. Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:
34. Previous experience of leading the resolution of business, technical and process issues within an Automotive Engineering Project Team environment
35. A good working knowledge of product creation & delivery, engineering change control, product definition and change management processes
36. Engineering related Degree or relevant equivalent experience
37. Proven experience of engineering project management within a technical environment, ideally encompassing the management of suppliers or other external organisations.
38. Previous experience in Body Engineering / Safety Components, Restraint Electronics or Vehicle Safety environments
39. Working knowledge of safety system development including airbag or seat belt dynamic performance, manufacturing processes and related standards and test procedures or vehicle safety attribute delivery or test.
40. Full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
41. Knowledge of vehicle level safety requirements.
42. At least one full development cycle on Safety Components or interior system
43. Trained/Experienced using AGILE methodology and Agile planning tools such as Jira and Confluence
44. Experience in Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA) & Design Review Based of Failure Mode (DRBFM).
