Senior Finance Assistant

About the role
We're looking for a Senior Finance Assistant to join our Finance Team and play a key role in successfully leading a team of finance assistants responsible for the organisation's purchase ledger and sales ledger processes, encompassing our company values and driving a continuous improvement culture.

Key responsibilities
Prepare and post journal entries, managing accruals and prepayment schedules
Support month-end and year-end close processes
Assist in producing financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
Manage and complete reconciliations of general ledger accounts and calculate rebates
Managing supplier and customer relationships and escalations
Support forecasting and cashflow monitoring
Manage supplier payments and employee expenses, ensuring prompt and accurate processing
Adhere to Group finance policies and internal controls, highlighting errors, risks or process weakness to the financial controller
Support the finance team by providing guidance and training where necessary
Liaise with other departments where required
Adhoc duties given by the financial controller
Skills and experience
AAT Level 4 qualified (or equivalent)
Minimum of 2 years in a finance or accounting support role
Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, accruals and prepayments
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
Excellent attention to detail, time management and organisational skills
Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach to problem solving
Desirable (but not essential):
Experience with Xero and Sage accounting systems
Advanced excel skills
Experience working in a high volume transactional environment
Familiarity with UK VAT rules and returns
