Wagon Field Service Engineer

Freightliner Heavy Haul Ltd is seeking a proactive and adaptable Wagon Field Service Engineer to join our Engineering team. Based out of our Ipswich Vehicle Maintenance Facility, this role will provide coverage across the South East region.
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on a variety of railway wagons. Key duties include conducting routine inspections at multiple sites, carrying out minor repairs, and triaging wagons to ensure timely and efficient maintenance planning.
Key Responsibilities
1. Comply with all health, safety, and technical standards, including site-specific policies and procedures.
2. Liaise with wagon controllers to plan and prioritise workloads effectively.
3. Perform maintenance, servicing, fault diagnosis, and repairs on rolling stock in line with approved maintenance plans.
4. Accurately complete all electronic and paper-based records for examinations and repairs within required timescales.
5. Ensure correct recording and reporting of materials issued to wagons.
6. Maintain tools, equipment, and company plant, including pre-use checks and minor servicing.
7. Participate in all relevant training, workshops, and competency assessments.
8. Uphold high standards of housekeeping and professionalism at all times.
Requirements
9. Strong commitment to safe working practices.
10. Flexibility to work away from home when required, including occasional overnight stays.
11. Full clean UK driving licence.
12. Good communication skills and the ability to work independently.
13. Understanding of mechanical and pneumatic systems, with a willingness to learn.
14. Previous experience in rolling stock maintenance is advantageous.
15. Ideally apprentice-trained or equivalent, with experience in mechanical maintenance practices.
