1:1 Level 2 SEN Teaching Assistant - Newton Aycliffe (SEMH & Behaviour Focus) Empowering Learning is seeking a resilient, creative, and compassionate Level 2 Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a primary-aged pupil with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role is ideal for someone confident in supporting pupils who present behaviours that challenge, with a calm and nurturing approach that promotes positive development and engagement. Role Details: Location: Newton Aycliffe Hours: Full-time (Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM - 3:30 PM) Start Date: ASAP, with potential to continue into the new academic year Key Responsibilities: Deliver consistent 1:1 support to a child displaying behaviours that challenge Use de-escalation techniques and behaviour strategies in line with school policy Create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment Support emotional regulation and encourage social and academic progress Work closely with the class teacher and wider school team to maintain effective routines Assist with classroom activities and creative learning tasks Communicate regularly with parents/carers to provide updates and reassurance Support with personal care if required Requirements: Minimum Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification Proven experience supporting children who display behaviours that challenge Experience within Early Years or Primary education Team Teach training is highly desirable (but not essential) A creative, proactive, and flexible approach to learning support Excellent communication and collaboration skills A calm, patient, and empathetic nature Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one If you're passionate about supporting children with additional needs, we'd love to hear from you.
