Senior HGV Supervisor – Location: Airdrie | Salary: £56,000 – £58,725 per annum (DOE & Qualifications) | Hours: Monday–Friday | 7am–5pm | Contract: 45 hours per week

An industry-leading transport and logistics organisation with over 60 years of operational excellence is recruiting a Senior HGV Supervisor for its flagship Airdrie depot. With multiple sites across the Central Belt and a modern fleet of 200+ vehicles and 600+ trailers and tankers, this business is recognised for safety leadership, compliance excellence, and engineering standards.
Due to a long-planned retirement, this is a rare opportunity for an experienced Senior HGV Supervisor to step into a high-profile leadership role within a well-established and fast-paced engineering operation.
The Role
The Senior HGV Supervisor will take full responsibility for all workshop operations, leading engineering teams, managing compliance, and driving performance across the fleet. This role is ideal for a former HGV Technician who has progressed into supervision and is now operating at senior workshop leadership level.
The Senior HGV Supervisor will be a key figure within depot leadership, ensuring statutory compliance, operational efficiency, cost control, and the highest standards of health, safety, and engineering excellence.
Responsibilities
* Oversee all workshop and engineering operations
* Ensure statutory compliance across fleet assets
* Lead and manage engineering teams and supervisors
* Promote a strong HS&E culture and best practice
* Deliver cost-effective maintenance operations
* Enforce Group engineering procedures and standards
* Review and challenge parts, supplier, and service pricing
* Manage supplier relationships and warranty claims
* Liaise with customers and internal transport teams
* Manage MOT planning, presentation, and compliance
* Control workshop capacity and asset availability
* Lead training, coaching, and performance management
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives
* Implement safe systems of work and risk assessments
* Manage accident, incident, and near-miss reporting
* Review developing technologies and training needs
Candidate Requirements
* Background as an HGV Technician with progression into supervision
* Minimum 3+ years’ experience in a Senior HGV Supervisor or workshop supervisory role
* Strong leadership and people management capability
* Excellent understanding of fleet compliance, MOTs, and inspections
* Commercial awareness and cost-control mindset
* Confident communicator and operational leader
* Experience managing large, fast-paced workshop environments
Qualifications & Licences
* Class 1 or Class 2 Licence
* NVQ / City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicles or Mechanical Engineering
* CPC
* Crane experience (desirable, not essential)
