Trust Grade Registrar – Paediatrics (ST4-ST8 equivalent)

The Trust covers a population of approximately 500,000 and operates a 38‑bedded Children’s Ward with a Paediatric Same Day Emergency Care (PSDEC) unit that sees over 7,000 attendances per year. The Level 2 Neonatal Unit contains 20 cots, including 3 ICU, 3 HDU and 14 SCBU. Outpatient care is delivered across two Children’s Outpatient Departments and a bespoke Child Development Centre. The trust employs 20 consultants who specialise in a broad range of paediatric subspecialities.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work at ST4–8 grade alongside paediatric trainees and other Trust doctors. They will cover the Children’s Ward and PSDEC (total 37 beds), the Level 2 Neonatal Unit (3 ICU, 3 HDU, 14 SCBU) and will contribute to outpatient clinics. The post holder is always supervised by a Consultant.

Qualifications
* MRCPCH or equivalent
* Registered with the GMC and hold a licence to practice
* Relevant higher degree
Experience
* Demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of paediatrics
* Experience working in the NHS
* Experience working in neonates
* Understanding of current issues in the wider NHS
* Understanding of current issues within paediatrics and the future direction of the speciality
* Attendance at a recognised management course
* Ability to work with and lead others across professions
Teaching & Training
* Experience and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non‑medical staff
* Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods resulting in publications
* Training in clinical and educational supervision
* Attendance at a teaching course
* Formal qualification in teaching/education
Audit & Research
* Critical appraisal skills
* Evidence of knowledge of research methodology
* Knowledge of audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects
