Job overview

We are currently recruiting for experienced registered Theatre Practitioners/Theatre Nurses and ODPs within our Theatre team. We would love to tell you about our team and our culture. Our area is committed to providing a high standard of patient care from 11 specialist theatres, 6 day unit theatres as well as initiating acute and chronic pain services. Our surgical specialties include: Maxillofacial, ENT, Gynaecology, Urology, Vascular, Upper GI, Colorectal, Breast and plastics, Acutes including Trauma.

You do not need any additional qualifications other than an active NMC/HCPC pin to be eligible for this post, but hold passion, enthusiasm and commitment to provide patient centered care. A positive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through research evidence. A willingness to supervise and teach junior staff and colleagues and share learning through clinical supervision. The ability to work as an integral member of the team.


Main duties of the job

* Demonstrate and develop clinical assessment skills, and the ability to prioritise the care for patients undergoing a Surgical / Anaesthetic procedure.
* Actively supports patients and their families, communicating clinical information using a variety of methods, to ensure effective understanding.
* Contribute to the continuing development of patient care within the operating theatres, e.g. through sharing knowledge and expertise as required.
* Prepare and organise clinical area to receive patients for elective and emergency.
* To safely identify, prepare, check and assemble equipment required for the relevant operating list.
* Responsible for adhering to the NMC / HCPC professional Code of Conduct.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Person specification


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (Level 1) or qualified Operating Department Practitioner with HPC registration or Anaesthetic Nurse (ENB 182/183 or equivalent)
* Teaching qualification


Experience

* Previous theatre experience at Band 5


Knowledge

* Demonstrate awareness of current issues in health care
* Demonstrate awareness of theatre specialty, and/or specific needs of patients undergoing surgical procedures.
* Demonstrates awareness of evidence based practice within a Theatre environment
* Demonstrates understanding of Health and Safety / COSHH


Behaviour

* Demonstrates a professional approach to patient care.

* Ability to work autonomously and as a member of the MDT

DBS Checks

Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in 1 payment or over a six month period once you start employment. By applying you are agreeing to this undertaking. If you are successful you will be asked to confirm if you wish to pay in one amount or in instalments. The charges are currently £27.38 for a standard check and £55.38 for an enhanced check. The level of check will be determined by the post you are applying for.
