Two part‑time posts (15 hours per week) in Aberystwyth University, Faculty of Sciences. Permanent contract. Salary £42,254.39 - £46,048.78 per annum (pro rata).
Overview
An exciting opportunity for a Clinical Skills Lecturer Practitioner (Registered Nurse Adult Field) to join the Healthcare Education team. The post supports the design and delivery of clinical skills and simulation provision for pre-registration Adult Nursing, Mental Health Nursing degrees, and related programmes, in both English and Welsh. The post holder will work with the Principal Lead & Head of Healthcare Education to develop provision and activities across Level 4 programmes and Return to Practice, in collaboration with Local Health Boards and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities
* Teach on site a wide range of healthcare topics related to clinical skills and simulation as a member of the Healthcare Education teaching team in the adult field of nursing
* Act as module coordinator and, where necessary, manage modules and coordinate colleagues in developing clinical skills & simulation activities
* Foster debate, critical discourse and reflective learning; collaborate with stakeholders on curriculum and module development
* Plan, design and deliver healthcare CPD for a variety of health professionals
* Maintain up-to-date professional knowledge and meet revalidation and NMC registration requirements
* Work with the Clinical Skills Lead, Simulation Lead and Technical staff; provide academic assessment and supervision in practice learning environments
* Manage placement learning opportunities and capacity for nursing students
* Act in line with the NMC Code and model professional behaviour for students and colleagues
* Publish and share scholarship related to learning and teaching
* Attend subject group meetings and identify student learning needs to tailor teaching
* Develop teaching materials and approaches; plan and manage teaching, scholarship and administrative tasks
* Provide constructive feedback and supervise student work; act as a personal tutor where appropriate
* Contribute to team teaching across programmes and settings; reflect on practice to improve teaching and learning skills
* Support new team members and assist with mandatory skills delivery for student groups
* Engage in university projects and initiatives as directed and balance duties during high-demand periods (e.g., open days, graduation)
* Champion equality, diversity and inclusion; support continuous professional development
* Adhere to health, safety and sustainability commitments within the University community
Essential qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills
* Registered Nurse with the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (Adult field)
* Nursing degree
* Evidence of continued professional development
* Extensive clinical experience as a Registered Nurse
* Current experience in clinical and/or simulation settings
* Experience of teaching, supervising and assessing healthcare students
* In-depth knowledge of the new NMC standards for pre-registration education
* Understanding of the Once for Wales core curriculum and documentation
* Knowledge of different teaching methods in healthcare
* Advanced communication and presentation skills; strong teaching and facilitation abilities
* Coaching skills; ability to travel for clinical visits
* Willingness to travel; Welsh language ability at level A0 (spoken and written) or willingness to learn
Desirable qualifications
* Master’s degree or willingness to work towards
* PhD or willingness to work towards
* HEA Fellowship; teaching qualification or willingness to work towards
* Ability to communicate in Welsh
* Welsh language proficiency levels (Level B2) or willingness to develop
