Main duties of the job
As a Senior Clinical Systems Officer, you will work alongside a productive, supportive team of clinical systems professionals.
You will support the implementation, maintenance, and optimisation of clinical information systems within Navigo.
The post holder will provide specialist advice, system configuration, and ongoing support to clinicians and administrative staff, ensuring that electronic patient records (EPRs) and other clinical systems meet the operational and strategic needs of Navigo. You will contribute to system upgrades, testing, data quality initiatives, and change management processes, with a particular focus on improving digital maturity in mental health settings.
This role is ideal for someone with a keen interest in digital healthcare, excellent problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to supporting frontline teams.

Job responsibilities
Clinical Systems
* Responsible for the technical configuration and ongoing optimisation of the organisation's clinical systems, including TPP SystmOne, InPhase Quality Management System, and other relevant platforms.
* Collaborate with Clinical Leads and system suppliers to ensure configurations meet organisational requirements, national dataset standards, performance indicators, and contractual obligations.
* Use expert knowledge of clinical systems to identify opportunities to enhance system functionality, workflows, and end-user experience.
* Plan and conduct thorough testing of new functionality and configurations delivered through system upgrades. Create and execute tailored test plans and scripts in advance, reflecting local configurations and minimising risk.
* Identify and assess the impact of changes introduced without notice from suppliers. Work with Clinical Systems Trainers to test updates and communicate relevant changes to end users.
* Identify risks associated with clinical system usage and collaborate with operational teams to mitigate these risks.
* Analyse issues and incidents to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
* Maintain system integrity and data security, including system audits and monitoring user access.
* Manage and maintain user accounts within information governance policies.
* Provide first-line support for clinical system users, resolving queries and escalating as necessary.
* Deliver training to system administrators and support the development of guidance materials for end users.
* Identify training needs proactively and liaise with training colleagues to address them.
* Document system administration procedures and keep materials up to date.
* Liaise with system suppliers to explore and implement developments that improve system functionality.
* Represent the organisation in external forums, user groups, and supplier meetings to contribute to system best practices and stay informed of upcoming changes.
Clinical Coding
* Communicate complex clinical coding rules and standards effectively to coding staff, clinicians, and administrative teams to ensure consistency and compliance.
* Monitor updates from NHS Digital and inform coding staff of changes to national coding policies.
* Apply expert knowledge of mental health clinical coding standards, medical terminology, and anatomy and physiology to support accurate coding practice.
* Complete the Mental Health Clinical Coding Course and participate in refresher training as needed.
* Act as the organisation's SNOMED CT lead, maintaining knowledge of SNOMED coding and supporting its implementation and correct usage.
* Maintain the clinical coding section within the Data Quality Policy, ensuring alignment with national guidance and best practices.
Datasets
* Collaborate with Analysts on the implementation and maintenance of nationally mandated datasets, including the Mental Health Services DataSet (MHSDS) and the Talking Therapies Minimum Data Set (IAPT MDS).
* Maintain knowledge of NHS information standards and data definitions as outlined in the NHS Data Dictionary.
* Investigate data-related issues and apply problem-solving skills to identify root causes and solutions.
Communication
* Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams such as the Assistant Director of Digital, the Systems and Insight Team, Clinical Leads, and other staff.
* Engage with external stakeholders, including system suppliers and other agencies.
* Communicate information clearly and accessibly, providing explanations and guidance to colleagues without a technical background to ensure data insights are understood and applied effectively.
* Explain technical concepts related to information governance and data security in straightforward terms to support compliance.
* Represent the DSI Team at meetings, contributing expertise and promoting collaboration.

Experience
* At least 3 years experience in configuration of clinical systems (SystmOne).
* Proven skills, training up to intermediate level in MS Office.
* Experience working to required timescales and within a pressurised environment.
* You have actively sought development opportunities, shared knowledge with colleagues, and demonstrated professionalism and compassion.
* Experience working with the identified specialist area(s) within the NHS.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of principles of Information Governance and risk management.
