Job Description
This is a senior interim opportunity for an experienced Head of HSE to provide strategic leadership and hands-on oversight across a complex, operational construction environment.
You'll be responsible for stabilising, leading and improving the organisation's Health, Safety and Environment approach, ensuring legal compliance while strengthening safety culture at senior and operational levels. This role requires someone confident operating at board level, but equally comfortable engaging with site teams and delivery functions.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and implement the organisation's HSE strategy, ensuring alignment with operational and commercial objectives
* Act as the senior HSE advisor to the Executive team, providing clear, pragmatic guidance on risk and compliance
* Ensure compliance with UK H&S legislation and relevant management systems (e.g. ISO 45001)
* Oversee audits, inspections and investigations, ensuring actions are meaningful and delivered
* Lead incident management, including root cause analysis for serious incidents and near misses
* Drive a positive and visible HSE culture across all levels of the business
* Engage effectively with regulators, external stakeholders, insurers and supply-chain partners
* Manage, mentor and support a small HSE team, setting priorities and ensuring delivery during the interim period
* Embed HSE considerations into projects, operations and business planning activity
What We're Looking For
* Proven experience operating at Head of HSE / Senior HSE Lead level within complex or high-risk environments (Ideally Civils, Telecoms or other Construction)
* Strong working knowledge of UK H&S legislation and best practice
* Experience influencing senior leaders and operational teams alike
* Comfortable stepping into an interim role and making an immediate impact
* NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) essential
* Chartered IOSH status or working towards
* Available to start at short notice
