Business Affairs Specialist (Part time, mostly remote, 6 month contract)
Our client, a growing licensed consumer products business, require an experienced Business Affairs & Commercial Contracts Consultant. This is a high‑impact interim role, building light‑touch “guardrails” that protect value and manage risk across licensors, customers, suppliers and compliance, while supporting continued growth in the UK and expansion to new international markets.
The opportunity
• 6‑month contract, part‑time (flexible days per week).
• Hybrid working, with some time on‑site in Hampshire plus remote working.
• Senior but hands‑on role reporting into the Head of Finance & Business Affairs
What you’ll do
You will lead a focused review and uplift of our client’s business affairs and contracts landscape, then help implement pragmatic improvements. Key areas include:
* Design and embed a simple approvals framework
* Building on existing contracts, create a small suite of practical standard contract templates and one‑page guidance for non‑legal teams.
* Review licensor and IP agreements sense‑check commercial viability, and support renewals and renegotiations where needed.
* Review and strengthen key customer, agent and distributor agreements in the UK and internationally, ensuring terms are both commercially attractive and legally robust.
* Assess supplier and manufacturing agreements for key commercial and operational terms, working closely with Operations and Product teams.
* Act as the internal point‑person for UK/EU/US product safety, packaging and environmental compliance, coordinating advice from external bodies and translating it into practical internal requirements.
* Align contracts, compliance exposure and insurance coverage, supporting annual renewals and risk mitigation planning.
* Oversee trademarks, NDAs and general contractual support, including simple tools, processes and education that help teams make better decisions, faster.
Your initial focus will be to conduct a broad review and produce a concise diagnostic of current risks and gaps, with prioritised recommendations and a clear route‑map of “quick wins” versus longer‑term structural changes (templates, thresholds, playbooks).
About you
You will bring a strong commercial and contracts background, likely from toys, licensing, consumer products, entertainment or FMCG.
• Substantial experience in commercial contracts, legal/business affairs or licensing, ideally including IP and/or licensor/agent agreement exposure.
• Experience of reviewing contracts and compliance frameworks and turning findings into pragmatic, prioritised action plans.
• Comfortable drafting and negotiating agreements (licensors, customers, distributors, suppliers, NDAs) and operating as a trusted advisor to non‑legal teams.
• Experience of translating regulations into practical actions across product safety, packaging and environmental requirements - we're open to candidates with transferable skills from unrelated sectors.
• A pragmatic, commercially‑focused style – able to balance “company guardian” responsibilities with enabling speed, creativity and growth
