HGV Technician / Workshop Manager - Telford

About the Company
We're a well-established gas delivery business based in Telford, currently expanding our operations and bringing our vehicle maintenance in-house. To support this growth, we're looking to recruit our first-ever HGV Technician - someone who can take ownership of our fleet workshop, lead all maintenance activities, and help us build an efficient, professional setup from the ground up.
The Role
This is a hands-on position for an experienced HGV Technician / Workshop Manager who's confident in every aspect of heavy vehicle maintenance and management. You'll take full control of the workshop and play a key role in developing our internal maintenance operation.
Key Responsibilities:

Carry out servicing, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on a mixed fleet of HGVs and trailers.

Oversee all MOT preparations, ensuring vehicles meet DVSA standards.

Manage engine, gearbox, brake, and electrical work independently.
*
Take charge of the day-to-day running of the workshop and set up systems for preventative maintenance.
*
Identify and recommend equipment, tools, and systems needed to establish a fully functional workshop.
*
Maintain service records and ensure full compliance with safety and transport regulations.
*
Work closely with management to plan maintenance schedules and minimise vehicle downtime.

Support the company's growth by building a reliable, well-organised maintenance function.
About You
We're looking for someone who's more than just a skilled mechanic - you'll be the go-to person for all fleet and workshop matters, setting the standard for quality and professionalism.
Requirements:

Proven experience as an HGV Technician / Workshop Supervisor / Workshop Manager.
*
In-depth knowledge of HGV maintenance, diagnostics, and repair (mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic).

Experience preparing vehicles for MOT testing.
*
Ability to manage workshop operations and introduce effective maintenance processes.
*
Confident in identifying necessary tools, equipment, and workshop setup requirements.
*
Full UK driving licence (HGV licence advantageous).
*
Strong problem-solving skills and proactive work ethic.
