Level 11 West is looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Band 6 nurse to join our dedicated Trauma and Orthopaedics team for a 1-year secondment to cover Maternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity for a nurse who is ready to develop their leadership skills, make a real impact on patient care, and support the team.
Main duties of the job
* Provide the highest standard of patient care as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
* Contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the ward over a 7-day period.
* Prioritize care and delegate duties appropriately, ensuring supervision and mentoring, and respond effectively to changing workloads.
* Develop own knowledge and skills through personal development plans and facilitate the development of others.
* Participate in change management and clinical audits within own area.
* Work in partnership with other agencies to ensure safe and high-quality patient care within trust guidelines.
* Create a conducive learning environment for staff and students, providing tuition, support, and guidance.

Job responsibilities
* Address individual needs to improve health and wellbeing through evidence-based care.
* Manage the ward effectively, recognizing and responding to workload changes.
* Model excellent practice in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
* Discuss evidence sources underpinning care decisions.
* Plan health promotion activities involving patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
* Engage with the multidisciplinary team and communicate effectively with patients and families.
* Coordinate with specialist nurses and other disciplines to ensure high standards of care regionally.
* Recognize organizational and clinical needs affecting your area.
* Maintain effective communication and negotiate care and discharge plans sensitively.
* Manage staffing and sickness in liaison with the ward manager.
* Use IT skills for patient record management and maintain accurate documentation.
* Lead shift handovers and provide constructive feedback.
* Maintain professional development and participate in appraisals and training.
* Support staff development, including mentorship and link nurse roles.
* Lead and participate in audits and monitor standards of care.
* Promote effective partnership working and resource management within the department.
Person Specification
* Substantial orthopaedic experience.
* Experience in ward coordination.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Good knowledge of discharge processes.
* Understanding of HR policies and procedures.
