Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator and Designated Safeguarding Lead
The Sir Donald Bailey Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and suitably qualified SENDCo and Designated Safeguarding Lead to join our teaching team.
Responsibilities
* Check, alongside the Senior Leadership Team, on the provision for pupils with SEND to ensure progress is maximised.
* Ensure statutory responsibilities for children with Education, Health and Care Plans are met.
* Support all staff and provide CPD so they have a good understanding of SEND.
* Analyse and interpret relevant school, local, trust and national data for SEND.
* Liaise with staff, parents, external agencies and other schools to coordinate provision, maximise support and promote continuity with the aim that SEND children become as independent as possible.
* Act as a key member of the Safeguarding Team.
* Identify and work with vulnerable pupils to overcome barriers to learning.
* Respond appropriately to complex and difficult situations, including safeguarding issues.
* Work with other school professionals to promote the inclusion and achievement of all pupils.
* Collaborate with lead professionals within the safeguarding team to ensure procedures follow Keeping Children Safe in Education legislation.
* Keep abreast of relevant safeguarding legislation.
* Develop constructive professional relationships with external agencies, multi‑agency teams, police, health and social services.
* Attend ICPC, CRC, TAF and Core group meetings.
* Work collaboratively with trust leaders and SEND Coordinators to implement the SEND Policy and contribute to its strategic development.
* Oversee day‑to‑day operation of the policy to raise pupil achievement for pupils with SEND.
* Ensure effective inclusive practice for pupils on the SEND register to foster independence.
* Fulfil responsibilities of a teacher as set out in the STPCD.
* Deliver and support pastoral provision directed by the principal.
* Assume appropriate safeguarding responsibility and report concerns per the school’s safeguarding policies.
* Take on other reasonable duties within the nature of the role.
Qualifications and Experience
Suitable qualified SENDCo and Designated Safeguarding Lead with experience in SEN coordination and safeguarding within an educational setting.
