Job overview

Applications are invited for a locum replacement Consultant Cellular Pathologist / Histopathologist in the Department of Cellular Pathology at Barts Health NHS Trust. The post is for a period of 6 months. The appointment is to provide Histopathology reporting within Upper and Lower Gastrointestinal Pathology and Urological Pathology for Barts Health and the other hospitals for which we undertake service provision.

Barts Health is one of the UK’s leading healthcare providers and the largest Trust in the NHS. Together, our hospitals - Newham University Hospital, St Bartholomew’s, The Royal London and Whipps Cross - deliver high quality clinical care to the people of East London and further afield. The hospitals offer a full portfolio of services to the local community and are home to some of the UK’s leading specialist centres. The upheaval of COVID-19 has provided our consultant team with the opportunity to implement flexible working, both geographic and temporal, enabling us to deliver an efficient service in spite of the restrictions of lockdown. Going forward, we hope to retain and capitalise upon these changes which we feel allow us to maintain a healthy work-life balance whilst continuing to provide an excellent service for our users, both of which are major priorities for our Department.

Main duties of the job

Together with consultant colleagues, the post holders will be responsible for the provision of Barts Health Cellular Pathology service.

The post holders will be expected to support the relevant specialty lead(s) and the Clinical Lead in the management of the cellular pathology service. The configuration of all the responsibilities will be reviewed from time to time and the post holders will be expected to work with consultant colleagues to provide a reliable and expeditious service, with scope for service development.

The rota(s) will be subject to negotiation between colleagues. Should disputes regarding rota(s) arise, the Lead Clinician will mediate.

Compliance with the requirements of good clinical governance and national arrangements for medical recertification will be expected. DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service, formally CRB) checks will be applied.

Applicants should be aware that regardless of country of origin, their ability to communicate in written and spoken English to the standard required to carry out the posts will be assessed during the selection process.

Working for our organisation

The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

We strive to live by our WeCare values and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. We value our differences and fully advocate, cultivate and support an inclusive working environment where staff treat one another with dignity and respect.
